Markets are Moving - Here's What to Keep in Mind
There’s no doubt about it — last week was a rocky one for the markets. And as I post this we have no way of knowing exactly how this week will turn out.
After President Trump’s sweeping rollout of new tariffs, the S&P 500 saw its largest two-day drop since the early days of the pandemic. It’s been widely reported, and understandably, it’s made a lot of investors uneasy.
If you’re feeling that way, you’re not alone. And you’re not wrong to feel concerned.
But here’s the perspective I’d like to offer:
Market volatility works in both directions. Last week, we saw a strong wave of selling — not uncommon when uncertainty enters the picture. But history shows us that some of the best market days often follow closely on the heels of the worst ones.
Take a look at the chart below — you’ll see that periods of steep decline are often followed by bursts of strong upward movement. This isn’t about optimism. This is about traders and investors trying to anticipate what is coming next. Sometimes they want to sell and other times they want to buy.
The hard truth is — downturns like this are part of the investing journey. They don’t feel good, and they never come at a “convenient” time. But they are not unusual, and they are not a reason to abandon your plan.
So, what should you do?
- Stay grounded.
- Don’t act out of fear.
- Remember why you invested the way you did.
- Know that we’re watching all of this closely — and we’re here for you.
Markets are reacting negatively now, but as news changes it is likely that they will react positively again (as they have historically). That has been the story time and time again.
If you’re feeling uncertain, reach out. We’re always available for a conversation — no pressure, no jargon, just a steady hand to help you stay focused.
Because your confidence matters much as your portfolio.
